Nicosia, Cyprus | 16 March 2026 – Nicosia Public Transport (NPT) officially launched the pilot phase of the PAVE-SCAN project, introducing innovative road-monitoring technologies to support safer, smarter, and more sustainable transport networks.
The first PAVE-SCAN device was installed on an NPT bus and began collecting data during daily operations. The pilot demonstrates how public transport vehicles can serve as mobile sensing platforms, using advanced sensors to monitor road surface conditions, detect pavement anomalies, and support more efficient infrastructure management and maintenance planning.
The Cyprus pilot in Nicosia forms part of a wider European deployment across Valletta (Malta), Madrid (Spain), Genoa (Italy), and Tallinn (Estonia), where the technology will be tested under diverse road and operational conditions.
By turning everyday public transport vehicles into intelligent sensing platforms, PAVE-SCAN is helping pave the way for smarter infrastructure management, safer roads, and more sustainable mobility systems.
